After 27 years of capacity building in Africa, ACBF has accumulated valuable knowledge and know-how that could be transmitted through trainings. This is also in response to the observation that many studies done by ACBF and other development institutions recommend capacity development through the acquisition of specific technical skills by practitioners which could be addressed through short-term targeted courses. Some institutions such as the International Monetary Fund and DiploFoundation have adopted this approach to support capacity building. It is against this background that ACBF is launching the Short-Term Capacity Development Training Program that will serve as a flexible learning platform for African professionals in acquiring targeted and applicable skills in areas pertinent to Africa’s transformation. The program is also in line with ACBF new business model to offer demand-driven capacity development services. Prior to the launch of the training program, ACBF conducted a brief survey to gauge the willingness of public sector, private sector, academia and civil society organization to participate in short-term training on topics of interest. The survey was conducted online from 11 May to 30 June 2018. The market survey was carried out virtually covering all ACBF networks and partners. The objective of the market survey was to determine whether there was a need for training and in which areas; the target-groups; and willingness to pay for the trainings. A further objective was to identify the preferred format of training and the likely sources of funding for the trainings.
