AbstractThis paper discusses aspects of the conduct of monetary policy in Uganda. The starting point being the perception held by some that while Uganda has been amongst the most consistently successful countries in Africa in controlling inflation since the early 1990s, this has come at a high fiscal cost and that the conduct of monetary policy has stifled rather than encouraged the development of the financial sector.
