This study aimed to contribute to meeting this gap by estimating the economic costs of tobacco usage using smoking as a proxy, via the documentation of the social and economic costs arising as a result of illness and disease linked to smoking. The research provides evidence to inform policymakers on the design and implementation of evidence-based tobacco control policies that are relevant to the Malawian context.
