AbstractThe study assessed the nature of community partnerships between AACES NGOs and local African NGOs. Specifically it examined how these partnerships relate to the communities they serve; the evolution and quality of these partnerships; and how successful they have been in supporting communities to achieve sustainable development outcomes. Analysis was informed by the AACES partnership principles: trust, flexibility, accountability, mutual respect, collaboration, transparency and learning. Among other finding, the study found that successful community partnerships require communication, a shared vision and mission, resources, power sharing and synergy. Under AACES, good communication is founded on clear roles, responsibilities and processes for decision–making, and an approach to dispute resolution where disputes – should they arise – are documented and negotiated. The study recommended that vision, mission, communication, synergy, resources and power sharing among partners continue to be strengthened and enhanced. This will ensure projects and programs initiated under AACES are sustainable, are owned and valued by communities, and can be replicated
