Over the last 20 years, nearly half of the member states of the African continent have been involved in one form of conflict or another. In this decade, over one-third of Sub-Saharan Africa was involved in conflict—more than any other part of the world. Besides the loss of life, displacement and dislocation caused by conflicts, there have been substantial long-term implications for increased poverty and delayed development, human and physical capital degradation, and institutional capacity destruction.
